DINO CHATILA
born in 1964 in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, is a self-taught visual artist whose work intersects abstraction, minimalism, and kineticism, establishing a unique presence in contemporary art. Chatila employs a variety of techniques in his art, including painting, sculpture, and installation. He often works with matrials such as glass, metal, textiles, paper, acrylic, and oil, exploring themes of construction, deformation and transformation. A significant moment in Chatila’s artistic development was his participation in the course “Painting Space” led by Professor Jacobo Borges at the Internationale Somme akademie für Bildende Kunst in Salzbur, Austria. This experience contributed to the evolution of his artistic style, which balances between creation and destruction, incorporating both mechanical actions and deep psychological exploration. Chatila’s works are characterized by their layered compositions, where he adds and removes layers of paint, creating a dynamic interplay between the visible and the hidden. His creative process often involves physically engaging with the materials, such as beating metal or plexiglass to reveal light and create reflective surfaces. This method reflects his desire to uncover the essencebehind the layers, both literally and metaphorically. Chatila’s abstract compositions serve as visual “memory maps,” integrating a multitude of emotions, memories, and images. His artistic journey is a dialogue with his materials, pushing the boundaries of visible space and delving into the depths of each layer to expose the underlying truths. Residing and working in Brussels, Belgium since 2014, Chatila’s solo and group exhibitions have been showcased in various galleries across Europe.
